We were just browsing through the best-selling headphones on Amazon. You’d think that the top would belong to a popular headphone manufacturer like Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, or Bose. But, in fact, the Bengoo G9000 is currently Amazon’s best seller!

This piqued our interest and then we remembered that we actually happen to own a pair of these headphones. George used them for quite some time before upgrading to the Cloud 2s later on. So, what’s all the fuss about? Here’s our experience with them!

Bengoo G9000 Review

The Bengoo G9000 seems to be just a sort of re-brand of the Kotion Each G9000. That’s evident by the fact that you can see this name printed on numerous other headphones with other names but the exact same design and the “Kotion Each” logo printed on the outside.

This is primarily a cheap gaming headset and you can see that all over it. The LED lighting, the overall design, the microphone – everything about it just screams “gaming”.

That’s awesome if you’re mainly interested in gaming. But, we definitely wouldn’t take these to commute or for outdoor usage in general.

Let’s go a little bit deeper.

Sound and Design

The Bengoo G9000 are naturally very bassy. The closed-back design is one of the reasons why, but you can definitely tell that it was meant to be designed as a bass-heavy headset.

This is no doubt great for bass lovers. But, at the same time, it’s very likely to drive audiophiles away. After all, this is the kind of bass that gets all muddy and kills the mid frequencies while over-emphasizing the highs.

At this point, you may argue that getting balanced sound at this price point is impossible anyway. However, that’s not true at all. The Superlux HD668B are actually a very solid pair of balanced headphones for the same price as they offer a more neutral sound and a much, much wider soundstage.

So, if bass is the top priority for you, chances are you’ll love the G9000s. But, if you prefer having something that’s wider-sounding and more balanced, maybe look somewhere else.

Comfort and Build

The Bengoo G9000 is an on-ear headset. Whether that feels comfortable or not can greatly vary on personal preference. But, if you’re new to all that stuff, keep in mind that most people tend to prefer over-ear headphones in terms of sound isolation and comfort.

Speaking of comfort, things are mostly fine if you don’t have a sensitive head or ears. But, the clamping force can certainly get a bit too much for some. Especially after extended periods of gaming.

Breathability is not that great either as we’re talking about a closed-back headset that feels quite a bit claustrophobic as well. This isn’t a massive problem for most people – but it can certainly get a bit too much for some.

The build seems to be just cheap plastic that somehow also feels durable. You don’t feel like they are going to break them in your arms with a wrong move and the braided cable also feels like it’s not going to get damaged easily. We’ve actually been passing them around friends and family for what feels like years now so we can say with a bit of certainty that it’s a sturdy headset.

Keep in mind that the cable is non-removable. So, no matter how durable it may be, pay extra attention not to yank on it.

Speaking of cables, the extra USB cable is only there to power the LED lights. And if you don’t like LEDs, then it’s just one extra, useless cable. Admittedly, the lighting is pretty cool if only a litte bit over the top. You won’t be able to see it while wearing the headphones, obviously. But your family, friends, or roomates may find it to be cool indeed.

Noise Isolation, Controls, and Microphone

Since we’re talking about a closed-back headset with a tight fit, the overall noise isolation is pretty decent. There is no noise cancellation here – but that’s to be expected from a headset of this price point. Not to mention that you don’t really need something like that indoors anyway (Cause you definitely don’t want to use these outdoors or in commute).

In terms of controls, you’ll find an in-line volume wheel along with a mute button for the microphone. They get the job done just fine but our only complaint is that the plastic is rather huge and it can easily get caught on your desk or chair if you’re trying to re-adjust. Obviously, that’s largely going to depend on how tall you are and the equipment that you’re using as well.

The microphone is admittedly a bit muffled and not that warm or clear. That may partially be due to the fact that you can’t really adjust it in any other position than upwards or downwards. You’ll find that it naturally sits a bit far away from your mouth and there’s not much that you can do about it – but it definitely gets the job done.

Bengoo G9000/Kotion Each – Wrapping Up

Nukkad tv serial all episodes downloads. This is more or less all there is to talk about with the Bengoo G9000s. To wrap things up:

  • Audio: Naturally bassy with muffled mids and weak highs: 7.5/10 for bass lovers and a generous 3/10 for audiophiles
  • Soundstage and imaging: Basically in your ear: 3/10. Imaging is not bad at all: 7/10
  • Build quality: While fully plastic, it feels rather sturdy and it still works just fine after at least 2 years of usage: 7/10
  • Comfort: There is a decent level of padding – but the clamping force is a bit much for bigger heads and the on-ear pads are definitely not our go-to choice: 6/10
  • Microphone: A bit muffled. But, it gets the job done: 6/10
  • Value: Despite its shortcomings, the G9000 is definitely not bad for the money. We’d actually say it’s pretty decent. The problem is that for the same money or even less, there are some other options that are extremely competitive. (Beexcelent G1, HyperX Cloud Stinger Core). And it gets even worse when you consider that you can get the Superlux HD668B in combination with a decent, cheap clip-on mic for just a bit more which is a match made in heaven. So, it’s not a bad buy. But we’d say that it’s not the best option either: 6/10

G9000

Overall, this is going to have to be a rough 6/10. Maybe 7/10 at best. This is all-around a mediocre headset mediocre build, mediocre sound, bad comfort, and mediocre microphone. Not bad for the money. But, if you don’t mind the bad noise isolation of open-backs and spending 10 extra dollars for a separate mic, the Superlux HD668B are the superior choice.
